Ankama Studio is a success story born from a comic book dream that transforms into a money spinning webdesign company, then an online multiplayer game with 100,000 subscribers and finally to become a cartoon production company. We met up with Anthony Roux, the founder who tells us about his surprising story. Dofus is their star game and is the first French on line massively multiplayer game ; The team, who are today working on the folow up called Yaken, also give us the inside story to how an animated graphic World is invented for thousands of players…
MGL figures as one of the biggest European studios specialising in hyper realistic special effects. They have worked for the cinema, advertising and the animation industry since 1982. It all began back in the fossil age of 3D, as the director Jacques Bled likes to recall. From the beginning they set themselves up with the director Jean-Baptiste Mondino who started his career with a commercial for Jean-Paul Gauthier. “Diversity” is the keyword at the studio. MGL is forever bubbling away like a laboratory for future knowledge.
Le Pivot is one of the major studios in the French motion arena. Set up in 2004 in Paris by the multi-talented Japanese director Takeo Hatai, the studio works between Japan and France in 2D, 3D and photography, developing unique projects with a poetical and sensitive touch. We met up with the director Takeo Hatai at the studio in Paris along with his development manager Thomas Pilicer.
Sylvain Quément alias Gangpol (sound) and Guillaume Gastagné alias Und Mit (visual) make up the unseparable duo Gangpol Und Mit. These playful partners mix zany music to starry pop visuals. Gangpol plays everything from punk rock to wacky nurserey rhythmes whilst Mit’s childish visuals provoke the sensitive side of society. Joking aside though, this dynamic duo release a picture disc soon on the label Wwlico, entitled, “The hopelessly sad story of the hideous end of the world”. One to check ASAP.
